The high water is a thought in the past, Fall is coming fast. The river is low and clear, Tricos, hatching in the late mornings, on those days without wind, keep the trout feeding until around 3:00 pm. We have had some windy days of late, the Caddis are hatching in the faster water around mid-day, and the wind keeps the hoppers active all afternoon.
It has been an off year for hoppers, they are being eaten these days, but its getting late into the season, and, not all patterns are working like years before. For Droppers, I have been having luck with Purple soft hackles, size #14, #16
These work pretty much all day, but better in the AM. The other flies working are black ants, this has been true for many years this time of year, parachutes in a size #16 0r #14.
Get out and fish before it gets too cold, it is such a pleasure to get out these days and having rising trout, and still be able to fish wet wading!
